Why Would We Welcome Uncomfortable Feelings?

When a feeling is very uncomfortable, we often want to get rid of it. We either try to suppress it or we try to distract ourselves from it. We want to avoid it anyway we can. Wanting to get rid of discomfort makes sense to the rational mind. And welcoming seems completely counter-intuitive. In The Sedona Method and releasing welcoming is very different than ordinary welcoming. The word welcome in releasing is a synonym for notice, bring awareness to, observe, witness, allow, open to, be with, give space to, etc. When we observe or witness a feeling we start to create a little space between ourselves and the feeling. This allows us to notice what is actually here when we are feeling a feeling. Once we experience a little space between ourselves and a feeling and notice what is actually here the experience of the feeling changes. We no longer feel like we are being controlled by the feeling. This is true for even the most uncomfortable feeling.
